Illustration Friday: Popularity

Her status in cyberspace had become so incredibly out of this world that they crowned her Miss Popularity 2012. Out there, she was Queen of the Tweets, Empress to the Blogs, but in reality, it was just her, sitting on her throne, with the constant chatting and tweeting that buzzed around her head (inside and out) day and night... or were they circling? Oh no! They're after her crown!?

Popularity - the chair was the first thing I drew. It started out as just a throne but seemed to take control of the pencil as I sketched and ended up looking like this! No idea where it came from!? Possibly could get up and walk away too. Skinny Girl (who I'm  thinking of calling Phoebe) appeared next and managed to fit into the chair perfectly (in her twisted way) using it as protection from the hovering tweets. Hand drawn using felt tip pen then coloured using Photoshop.

  1. Now that you mention it, she does look like a Phoebe. This is so cute! I really like the throne with the curly bits and the feet (and of course a poofy red cushion). The birds are great too! But, they do not look like they are menacing her or anything, so I wonder if she has a bit of bird phobia? Or maybe she just doesn't like them looking at her. But you can't have such a swanky chair and envious hair and not expect some looks. That's all I'm saying. ;D

  2. Hmmm... think she might just be Miss Paranoia (spell check?). Definitely an Alfred Hitchcock Birds thing going on though... even if they are jsut blue birds.

  3. Maybe she's Phoebe, Queen of Birds? Looks to me as if she's sent them on a task and watching them fly away to their mission. Cute, I love the chair feet and swirly chair arms.

  4. Possibly... or Phoebe, Queen of Peep (peeping through the back of chair that is...). She is a mysterious, expressionless sort of gal - who knows what goes on in that pointy head!

  5. Oooh, looking at this sends me to my happy place! I love the colors! Hehehehe, she looks a bit like Lady Godiva there. And her skinny limbs are absolutely awesome!

  6. You're right! A modern day Lady Godiva although the whole riding a horse naked thing just doesn't seem right...

  7. Love the illustration and the story with it. So funny. And that's one place you can get away with being nude... nobody sees u in cyberspace... unless you're one of those types who photographs themselves every two seconds and post it of course ;)
